What is Methamphetamine?

• Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. It takes the form of a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol.
• Methamphetamine is a controlled substance, classified as a Schedule II drug under the Controlled Substances Act because it has a high potential for abuse.
• Methamphetamine is a prescription drug (Desoxyn) which is sometimes used to treat: attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), narcolepsy and obesity. Physicians may chose to prescribe methamphetamine when amphetamines (Adderall®) or other stimulants fail to be effective. Meth also has legimate military applications.
• Methamphetamine is chemically related to amphetamine but it is is more potent, longer lasting and more harmful to the CNS than amphetamine.
