Biological Warfare: Diseases as Weapons

Participant outcomes


Upon completion of this course, the particpant will:

  1. Act in compliance with Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for the employer and employee when responding to a biological hazardous materials release incident.
  2. Engage in a minimum of eight hours mandatory hazardous materials training and annual refresher training before accepting "First Receiver" patient decontamination responsibilities.
  3. Recognize the level of threat posed by Category A, B, and C biological hazards as classified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  4. Understand the potential for weaponization, likely modes of dissemination, signs and symptoms, clinical course, and disease management for the following hazardous agents:
    1. Anthrax
    2. Botulism
    3. Plague
    4. Smallpox
    5. Tularemia
    6. Viral hemorrhagic fever
